Their journey began when the family unanimously agreed to rent out their new dream home in Alaska for a bigger dream: following their love of music. The Walkers sold all their belongings, bought a 38’ RV, a 27’ Trailer, and a dog, and headed south…the only direction you can go from Alaska. Their most recent tour focused primarily on the Deep South, Appalachia and the Ozark Mountains as they immersed themselves in the roots music of America.

This Amazing Family has graced the stages of Performing Arts Centers, Theatres, Opry Houses, and Festivals all over the country. In the summer of 2008 an opportunity arose for the RedHead Express to play in Branson, Missouri. Their success there has led them through two great Branson seasons where they performed at the Dutton Family Theater. RedHead Express has performed over 400 Shows in Branson, Missouri and won the following Awards in 2009: Best Banjo Artist; Best Bass Fiddle Artist; Best Young Female Entertainer; and Committee Chair Award.

Music In The Schools: The Walker Family is also committed to share their love of traditional Appalachian and bluegrass music through their own workshops for children.

“I have had the pleasure of working with the RedHead Express in Nashville the past 2 years. They are genuine, down-to-earth people, and a close-knit family. With their warmth and love of music, the RedHead Express are irresistable performers who make friends and fans wherever they go.” — Kathy Chiavola, Belmont University

Apryll says she married Brett because he serenaded her on their first date! Well, who can say no to a great Elvis love song like Can’t Help Falling In Love? His soulful, rich baritone voice has had her hooked 20 years now! Brett sings lead, bass and low-tenor harmony in the family band.

Apryll gained her love of music from her parents. She grew up playing violin and piano. And she learned to sing harmony with her two sisters. Her mother always dreamed of having a family band and now Apryll has made that dream a reality for her own family. She plays rhythm guitar and adds depth to the vocals with her broad range from low baritone to high tenor.

Kendra, 20, attends college online so she can travel with the band. She has an extensive background in jazz singing and has won many awards during high school. Her richness and warmth, mixed with jazz and blues, creates a very unique sound. She breathes new life into old songs. Kendra has been compared to the likes of Alison Krauss and Eva Cassidy — sweet but sassy! She plays lead guitar and fiddle in the band. She also writes many of the band’s original songs.

LaRae, 18, just finished high school. She is accomplished at the banjo, playing the old frailing style as well as the Scruggs’ three-finger style. LaRae can make a banjo sound pretty or brassy! She also plays fiddle and adds her lovely high-tenor voice to the band. And yet, LaRae may be best known for her beautiful smile. How many people can pick a banjo and smile at the same time?

Alisa, 17, is bursting with talent and energy. She lights the stage on fire with her presence! Alisa loves music and loves to share it. She taught herself to yodel just by listening to old country songs. Alisa is our smokin' hot mandolin and fiddle player. Her voice has been compared to Loretta Lynn. She sings low baritone with maturity beyond her years. Alisa is another family band member with an eternal smile.

Meghan, 14, is an incredible, and incredibly young, bass player! She is the solid, steady heartbeat of the band. Her style is changing rapidly, thanks to the influence of Meghan’s favorite bass player, Mike Bub. Meghan sings with a sweet, high-tenor voice and while she may be quiet off-stage, don’t let it fool you. She isn’t shy about sharing her music!

Sean, Joseph, and Ammon, eleven, nine, and seven years old, respectively, are quickly catching up with their older sisters! You'll see the boys on fiddle, mandolin, banjo and bass as well as singing sweet three part harmonies. They’ll play you an old fiddle tune, or they may sing about a Man of Constant Sorrow — in harmony — with that beautiful tone that only young boys’ voices can create!
